When moving to a new state, where you know almost no one, it is crucial to quickly find a posse of ladies to call your own. As an “outgoing introvert,” I gravitate towards having just a few really close friends. Jane is one of my people: soft-spoken, thoughtful, and endearingly genuine.
We were workin’ our bunz off in the gym this past April when she confided that she and her hubs were expecting baby #2! Now, 7 months later, she is just a few weeks away from meeting her second daughter, whom she plans to name Scarlett. Is Jane not the most photogenic prego ever?
This past weekend I hosted a brunch in honor of baby Scarlett. To some people, a baby shower for a second child is still taboo, but any excuse for me to get crafty is good excuse! Why should the first baby have all the fun?
For decor, I bought a pack of colored scrapbook paper and turned it into an array of hand-cut flowers.
These frames usually display my patent art, but in order to theme them for the shower I covered the glass with white poster board cut to size. Atop that is a square of patterned scrapbook paper and the art I designed is printed on heavyweight watercolor paper to give them a quality feel. The pink ribbon on the right says “Sisters are Forever.” Songbird actually strung the pompom garland for me; it’s just poms threaded onto embroidery floss (which is thicker than sewing thread).
The brunch spread included yogurt, peach-raspberry jello, powdered donuts, streusel muffins, strawberry cheescake, mixed melon, bacon egg & cheese tarts, and sparkling strawberry lemonade.
This lazy susan (originally for s’mores), was perfect for the yogurt bar. And if you want to know the secret to my mess-less glitter “S,” then check out that tutorial here.
After eating our fill, we enjoyed watching Jane open gifts. Those tiny clothes had us all cooing and swapping birth stories… it’s a mom thing.
Now all that’s missing is a tiny human! Since Jane lives just 5 minutes down the road I’m looking forward to meeting Scarlett soon and getting a weekly baby fix. Also, a big shout out to Handsome who took our kids to the aquarium for the morning (and who also left the microwave open with his lunch inside to take this photo). Congrats, Jane!
