rainbow pegacorn birthday party

What? You’ve never heard of a pegacorn?! That’s ok, neither had I until Songbird informed me that it’s a pegasus + a unicorn (a horse with wings and a horn). She specifically asked for a rainbow pegacorn themed party for her birthday this year and I was happy to oblige.

I couldn’t believe my luck when I found this gorgeous rainbow pegacorn play figure to use as the cake topper! (Click the link to find it on Amazon… the fairy is attached with magnets and is removable!)

Personalized party favor tins were filled with play jewelry, unicorn figurines, mini rainbow lollipops, and unicorn stickers.

I fashioned the “6” from poster board (like this pinata) and then covered it with folded squares of tissue paper.

To get all the girls in character, each was fitted with a sparkly unicorn horn upon her arrival. I used this tutorial and pattern to make them, but modified it by attaching the horns to headbands. The headband holder was made from an oatmeal container, dowels, a wood plaque and gold spraypaint.

While waiting for everyone to arrive, Songbird and her guests colored unicorns under the rainbow chandelier.

The main party activity was painting their own t-shirt. The shirts were taped around cardboard to keep the paint from soaking through to the back. Freezer paper stencils of pegacorns were ironed on (can you see them?) and the girls used brushes to apply fabric paint. After the paint dried, we pulled off the stencils to reveal their designs! Pinatas are a birthday party favorite, but I’m not a huge fan of enthusiastic kids swinging big sticks inside my house. And with a mid-October birthday, we’re never guaranteed the opportunity to take the crazy outside. After researching alternatives, I made a “punch pinata” to replace the classic hanging version. Each girl got 4 turns to punch their hand through a tissue-papered hole and pull out a prize. Songbird said it was better than a “real” pinata, so win-win!

After opening gifts, Songbird is the proud owner of several new horse/unicorn/pegacorn toys and outfits. I think all would agree that the party was a rainbow, glitter, pegacorn success!

Absolutely Beautiful!!! Great ideas!! I was just admiring all the time and effort you put into your party!! I just hope I can come up with similar ideas just as successfully as you did!! Katelynn is turning 6, too in March…but she has changed her ideas from a “Frozen” , ” Monster High”, and now a “Barbie Pegasus” birthday…lol!!! Yikes!! I will have to see how my budget will be and exactly how creative I can make this party work for her!p

Thanks Leah! And that’s exactly why I almost always end up putting together our parties last minute… those kids change their minds all the time! :)

Shelly – The garland was a DIY and I found the tutorial at http://www.handcraftedparties.com/diy-crepe-paper-tassel-garland/. I found all of my colored streamer rolls in Walmart’s party section. Hope that helps!

Hey, beautiful party. Can I ask where you got the cute chubby bottles? I see this was two years ago, so they probably aren’t available anymore, but you never know! Thanks!
