simple joys : daisy chains

A bouquet of flowers on the dinner table had almost entirely wilted – all but the daisies. Not one to let good blooms go to waste, I figured that it was high time Songbird learned how to make a daisy chain.

Her small fingers are not yet nimble enough to make the delicate holes, but she enjoyed helping me thread them through.

Often I forget how much my kids don’t know yet; random knowledge I take for granted. The pure bliss in their faces as they experience the simplest joys for the first time is refreshing. Sometimes I forget that teaching them the small things, like how to make a flower crown, are just as important as the big things.

In the busy-ness of life, I am frequently guilty of brushing off those small, but important moments. I need to be more mindful of how just 10 slow, focused minutes with my daughter can drastically change her mood and grow her spirit.

For all too soon she’ll be grown and gone, teaching her own kids how to make daisy chains.
