Welcome to March everyone! Easter is just a few weeks away – what a great excuse to sew a few handmade bows. Check out my Project Nursery post on how to turn a thrifted men’s necktie into an adorable clip-on bow for boys’ shirts or girls’ hair. Bug will be definitely be rockin’ a handmade bowtie this Easter!

Have you seen the commercials for the tubeless toilet paper? Well, I can guarantee those new-fangled things won’t be making an appearance in mi casa anytime soon because 1) I do not want to clean up business with whatever crazy chemicals are keeping the middle of those things rigid and 2) TP tubes are hoarded and re-used with love in this home.

Anyone doing fun Easter crafts this week? Or just still being held hostage by the weather like us? Grab those paper rolls outta the trash recycling and let’s make some bunnies! Sketch an outline on the tube like this.

We had friends over for a lunch playdate this weekend and all the kids got to design their own toilet paper roll bunny.

Putting your fingers inside the tube makes it easier to paint the whole thing.

What about you? Will you join the tubeless revolution or would the disappearance of the little cardboard roll be a loss too great to bear?

I avoid egg dyeing like the plague. It just seems so messy and chaotic to me, especially with small kids. There are tons of amazing ideas out on the interwebs about alternative decorating, but I just opted to keep it simple and fun with supplies we had on hand.

Untraditional Eggs

I found a set of 12 plastic decorating eggs at Walmart for $2. They are lightweight and have a velvety soft finish to them, which absorbs dye (or in our case, paint). We used traditional kid paints which resulted in a beautiful watercolor look.

Songbird has the dexterity to handle a paintbrush on the rounded surfaces – although it required her full attention. In this shot she’s telling me she can’t look at the camera or she’ll loose her focus.

Bug did better applying his paint with a round foam pouncer.

In the time it took to eat a few chocolate Easter candies, the watercolors were dry and we busted out colorful Sharpies to add more details.

No designer-gorgeous eggs here. Just a dozen of handmade, heartfelt efforts. Should be fun to see where the bunny has hidden them tomorrow!
